DYING IS MY BUSINESS Reviewed in Rue Morgue Magazine

My favorite glossy magazine about all things horror, Rue Morgue, ran a fantastic review of Dying Is My Business in their November 2013 issue. (The issue was plagued with distribution problems last month but should be appearing in subscribers’ mailboxes now, on the heels of the December issue. Keep an eye out for it.) I can’t link to it because it’s a print review, obviously, but here’s a pull quote:

“Kaufmann’s novel bristles with suspense; the storytelling is well-paced and the narrative is packed with intrigue. The eternal theme of what it means to be human or monstrous…is in play here, and Kaufmann handles it with dexterity.”

I’m not kidding when I call Rue Morgue my favorite. I’ve been hoping for a review in the magazine for years now, and I couldn’t be happier with this one.

I recently attempted to read Dying is my business. I was well into the book and enjoying it when to my disappointment I came upon a huger error. in the copy of the book i have after page 308 there is a gap in the story. what should be pages 309-340 of Dying is my business are missing. In place of these pages it appears the publisher made a huge error. Pages 309-339 are obviously chapters from an entirely different book. Some of the characters are Eleanor, Superintendent Bentnick, Nick, Stella Weller and Mr. Egerton. The story of Dying is my business picks up on page 340 with Styrge spreading his wings. Obviously much happened between pages 308 and 340. You should really talk to your publisher about their sloppy work. If you like I will send you the book i have so you can see for yourself.

Hello, M, and merry Christmas! Thanks for contacting me. I and St. Martin’s are indeed aware of this terrible misprint. The good news is that only a very small handful of copies were affected. The bad news is that you seem to have gotten one of them. I’m so very sorry about that. Don’t send your copy to me. Instead, bring it back to the store where you purchased it. Let them know it’s a defective copy and that it needs to be replaced. They’ll do so free of charge. Alternatively, if you don’t want to wait, the missing pages are available as a PDF here: http://www.nicholaskaufmann.com/books/dying-is-my-business/ My sincerest apologies for the inconvenience. I hope you will continue to enjoy the novel. (By the way, if you’re curious, the other novel that got mixed in with mine is called A COLOURFUL DEATH by Carola Dunn!)
