My Necon 39 Schedule

It’s almost time for Necon 39! From July 18th through July 21st, I will be returning to the famed “summer camp for horror writers” in Portsmouth, Rhode Island for my 18th year! Here’s my schedule while I’m there:

Friday, July 19th

9:00 a.m.     Mini-Golf (a Necon Olympic Event)
I won the gold medal in mini-golf last year, and I look forward to defending my title!

8:00 p.m.     Meet the Authors Party
I’ll be signing books all night, and will have a small selection of titles on hand to sell as well.

Saturday, July 20th

4:30 p.m.     It’s a Bird! It’s a Plane! Writing Superheroes in the 21st Century
Rachel Autumn Deering, Christopher Golden, Carol Gyzander, Nicholas Kaufmann (M), Errick Nunnally, Charles Rutledge
Following with this theme, Superman’s tagline used to be, “Truth, Justice, and the American Way,” a phrase that could be interpreted very differently today. Yet superheroes aren’t just persisting in 2019, they’re thriving. Our authors tell us how.

9:00 p.m.     The Infamous Necon Roast
Once again Jeff Strand and I will be co-hosting the annual Necon Roast. Who will be sitting in the hot seat this year? You’ll have to be there to find out!

Sunday, July 21st

11:00 a.m.     Necon Town Meeting
Come tell me and the rest of the convention committee what we did right, what we did wrong, and what you’d like to see next year.

I helped put together the panels again this year, and I’m very proud of how they turned out. Click here to see the full Necon 39 program.

See you at Necon!

Summer Appearances 2019

Here is where you’ll be able to catch me this summer:

July 18th – 21st, Necon. I will be appearing on panels along with Writer Guests of Honor Linda Addison, Grady Hendrix, and John Langan, Artist Guest of Honor Reiko Murakami, and Toastmaster Kristin Dearborn.

August 2nd – 4th, Scares That Care Weekend. This is a charity horror convention where I will be one of the author guests, selling and signing my books, appearing on panels, and doing a reading. Click here to see the other author guests. Click here to see the celebrity guests.

August 22nd – 25th, NecronomiCon Providence. I don’t know yet if I will be on any panels or doing a reading, but I will be there either way. Click here to see the Guests of Honor.

I hope to see you at any or all of these events!

Please note that I will not be appearing at two of my usual haunts this summer/fall, Readercon and the Merrimack Valley Halloween Book Festival, due to previous commitments.

Scares That Care Charity Weekend

Where can you find me selling and signing books alongside authors like Josh Malerman, Jonathan Maberry, Maurice Broaddus, and Paul Tremblay? At the sixth annual Scares That Care Charity Weekend, taking place August 2-4 in Williamsburg, VA!

My HELIOsphere 2019 Schedule

HELIOsphere is coming up this weekend in Tarrytown! I’m delighted to be a program participant at this new convention (this is only its second year), although I will only be there on Friday and Saturday. Here’s where you can find me:

Friday, April 5th

3:30 PM – 4:45 PM: Reading, Ballroom 4
Readings at HELIOsphere are a group effort, so I will be joined by Keith R.A. DeCandido, Ken Altabef, and Ryk Spoor.

5:00 PM – 6:15 PM: Current SF/Fantasy/Horror on TV, Ballroom 1
With so much quality SF/F/H content available on streaming services, cable channels, and network TV, we truly are living in a golden age of genre television. Come find out which recent series have captured our panelists’ attention, which veteran series are still going strong, and which forthcoming series show a lot of promise. With Nicholas Kaufmann (m), Paul Levinson, Walter H. Hunt, and Alex Shvartsman.

Saturday, April 6th

11:30 AM – 12:45 PM: Books N Brews Session 1, Ballroom 6
Some of our presenters have agreed to hold small social gatherings with the attendees, while enjoying one’s brew of choice (coffee and tea will be available, beer and other alcohol can be purchased from the bar and brought over). Conversations are casual… there may a reading, a sharing of art, a discussion about something the presenter is working on, or even just discovering common interests. Feel free to come and join in! With Nicholas Kaufmann, Karen Heuler, Esther Friesner, Mike McPhail, Gordon Linzner, John Grant, and Walter H. Hunt.

4:00 PM – 5:15 PM: Small Scares: The Art of Suspenseful and Horrifying Short Fiction, Ballroom 1
In dark, horror and mystery stories, carefully constructing the elements in each section of the plot helps to build suspense. Suspense can also be heightened by showing characterization. Small scares, well placed, contribute to a satisfying climax. With Nicholas Kaufmann, Carol Gyzander (m), April Grey, James Chambers, and Marilyn “Mattie” Brahen.

I’m looking forward to seeing you there!
